Jordan Pilkington

Jordan was always very active, playing sports, being involved in football and swimming from a young age. Jordan competed at county and national level and swan for English schools. Jordan’s passion for his football team, Manchester United, continues home and away, rain or shine.

Jordan was a Sapper, a Royal Engineer, in the British Army when he began to have symptoms of a pulled muscle in his leg. Then proceeded to have symptoms and loss of use of left hand. Jordan was given his diagnosis in July 2019; he was 22 years old.

Jordan’s lifelong dream of serving in the armed forces changed overnight. Jordan’s motto is ‘that’s the card I’ve been dealt, and I will get on with it’. His speech was lost very quickly, and he had to rely on letters to spell out words initially, but then was replaced with an eye gaze. This enables Jordan to remain in contact with my friends, giving him his voice back and having opportunities to do social media, research topics and check the world of sport.

Jordan is now in a wheelchair, had a peg feed and has his parents to care for him. In 2023, Jordan was invited to attend a fundraiser in Wigan, this is where he met Martyn and Lynn. He was overwhelmed by other people who have been diagnosed with MND and the impact it had on their lives. He also had the privilege of meeting Kevin Sinfield at his book signing in Manchester and Rob Burrows at the Masked Ball. It was very emotional, but Jordan will continue to fight, smile, make memories and bang that drum for the MND community and raise awareness.
