For Lorna Ford, fundraising had almost been a constant part of life, with a Dad, Chris, who was a lively member of the Roundtable and a Mum, another Chris, who helped raise money for any furry creature going. After her Dad then was diagnosed with MND, losing his battle in 2013, only nine months after diagnosis, Lorna initially felt too angry and disillusioned to start any campaigning.  However, after losing, her Mum, something she laid firmly at the door of MND and also following the fantastic awareness raising of MND that Rob and Kevin started, she became a firm member of The MND Army. Alongside her brother, Richard and other family and good friends. 7-in 7 was the start of her family’s mission to make people understand what MND is and also to help raise as much money as possible to fund ethical research into finding a cure.  Until this becomes a reality the book stalls, the teddy tombolas, crafting, fun days, supporting of others’ events, but most of all having the best night ever at the epic band nights in Chesterfield with a growing barmy army, will continue.  In 2025, she received a ‘Make a Difference’ Award for fundraising, in recognition of the work done in raising money for a multitude of great causes. Including The MND Army, The Royal British Legion, Complete Kitty Rescue, The Clothing Bank, Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Pact House along with many charitable causes.  Her Charity Group at Dronfield Junior School, which she has led since 1996, was central to her receiving the award and Lorna has a strong drive to foster in her pupils, the same love of simply helping others where possible.  For Lorna, the one positive of MND, is having met a fantastic group of like-minded people, many of whom are also a key part of Mel Evans MBE Foundation and together with them and the rest of the MND community, Lorna wants to help fund stronger and more impactful research until a cure for MND is found.
