Richard’s Dad, Chris died from Motor Neurone Disease in 2013, after a savage 9-month illness. Richard’s obsession since then has been to find a cure for MND. From an awful situation Richard, his sister Lorna and wider friends and family formed The MND Army. He and Mel Evans MBE Foundation patrons united behind a shared passion to cure MND. Focusing on having fun, whilst making a difference.
Richard and his MND Army have raised almost £50,000. Through the combined power of the Foundation, and wonderful supporters Richard believes the Foundation can be innovative, where every single person is powered by those with MND. Like all of us in the Foundation, a cure isn’t a wish, it is an obsession. Richard says he just wishes to remove one word from a sentence. “There is NOT a cure for MND”.
Richard and his sister were particularly proud to support our charity, as one of the Trustees is Dame Professor Pamela Shaw. Pamela was Chris’s consultant and is a driving force for research and investment in MND. Richard and all his family want to drive a cure for MND. His wife Lisa, and two sons have done a large number of challenges. From 177 miles off road on a bike, London to Brighton off road, challenging walks, and organising and running events. Richard’s friend, Chris Brewster conceived the idea of 50p4MND. Chris has already raised £15,000 at his two pubs in Woodstock, Oxfordshire (The Duke and The Back Lane Tavern at Woodstock). Richard’s dream is for 50p4MND to grow into a major source of investment into research and a cure.
